Why is it that parents have such a hard time teaching their children about real life lessons?
The reason I ask is that I work with young men and women everyday all day. Today i had a long talk with one of my youth about how a relationship works. Its sad really the youth are paying the price for the mistakes of their parents.
Parents you have more influence on your kids than you think. Here are some things you can do to prevent your child from getting in trouble.
Don't be afraid to tell your kids the truth about things. If you don't talk to them someone else will.
Set boundaries for your kids they need them.
Kids need parents more than they need a friend. I see to many parents who want to be a friend more than a parent. This is the biggest mistake I see. They're to afraid to say no, because there worried their child will be mad at them.
Teach them the rewards of working hard and earning what they get. I see so many kids that are lazy and commit crimes because they don't want to work for what they have.
Our children our a reflection of us. Everything they learn they learn from us.
Let me explain a little more I work at a Youth corrections facility. I work with the "worst of the worst" or that's what they say. I've never believed that crap. These are kids who have made bad choices. I see a side of them that most people don't. I get to see the hand life dealt them and most of the time it starts with the parents. It bothers me so much that these people get a beautiful gift such as a child and take it for granted. The part that pisses me off is that it takes these kids getting locked up to feel safe and be themselves.
It's my job to fix them.
Here's the cool part, they're not broken they're normal kids.
Here's the secret to what i do to fix them. I spend time with them, I listen, I do homework with them, I watch movies with them and here's the biggest one I TALK to them.
So parents please spend time with your kids and don't take them for granted. Because some of us have to work harder at becoming parents than most.
